Calby’s distinct, roots-inspired style is anchored in a truly soulful voice, and when he debuted in 2020, it was with songs recorded simply on an 8-track tape recorder. Despite its obvious limitations, the album ’Burnout’ introduced a musician and songwriter whose creative output would prove endlessly rich.
This winter, the Copenhagen-based artist continues to unfold his musical journey with ’Deeper Love’. The song showcases more sensual and emotional lyricism from Calby, built around a cinematic soundscape with sweeping strings layered over an organic beat that lifts the music into a timeless realm.
“’Deeper Love’ is a song I wrote for the love of my life. It’s my tribute to everything we share. It’s about what we’ve been through together – how I can see myself in her scars, and how she carries them more gracefully than I ever could. It’s a declaration of love – honest, unfiltered, and without reservation,” Calby shares.
’Deeper Love’ marks the next step toward Calby’s forthcoming third album – an honest and mature portrait of the artist he’s becoming.
Calby’s original take on soul and R&B has established him as one of Denmark’s most acclaimed new artists. Along the way, he has already experienced both highs and lows – including a worldwide record deal with a U.S. major label that fell apart during COVID-19 – yet his 2023 sophomore album ’Inner Critic’s Choice Awards’ once again revealed a fearless songwriter who continues to evolve and push forward.
