The new single from Copenhagen-based artist Elliot is both dreamy and sensually seductive indie-pop – yet uncompromising youth poetry about being seen through others’ eyes, and the fear of a life defined by loneliness.
Following his widely acclaimed ‘affegato’ EP – a project that, despite its nod to a classic Italian dessert, offered far more grit than sweetness – Elliot continues to refine his dreamy indie-pop sound. The Copenhagen singer-songwriter’s often vivid, escapist lyrics carry a distinctly bittersweet aftertaste, but above all they are marked by a liberating honesty.
On his new single ‘hot but depressive’, Elliot confronts a relentless feeling of being unlovable.
“It comes from self-sabotaging good intentions – from distancing yourself from love before it gets too close, because you don’t want to hurt others with your own emotional complexity,” he explains, continuing: “Instead of showing all the beautiful things I carry inside, I end up showing my destructive sides – the person who never feels good enough – and then I’d rather destroy it before ending up in yet another superficial or staged relationship. ‘hot but depressive’ is, in many ways, a song about the fear of loneliness.”
A sense of dusty Americana sets a melancholic scene in the song’s opening guitar lines, while Elliot’s sensual, raw yet velvety vocals and an irresistibly catchy melody build toward the chorus’s cathartic indie-pop universe. ‘hot but depressive’ was created in close collaboration with Elliot’s band and producer Joachim Ersgaard (Mina Okabe, Mercedess, among others).
Since his debut at just 17, Elliot’s talent has repeatedly been highlighted by leading international media, and most recently, he was named a standout act at SPOT Festival 2025 by UK-based CLASH Magazine. He has supported renowned Nordic indie acts like Brimheim and Gorgeous, while several of his singles have received airplay across Danish national radio stations.
‘hot but depressive’ follows last autumn’s ’nothing at all’, featuring Reveal Party, and marks the second release from Elliot’s forthcoming EP.
