On November 15th, 2024 German Alternative-/Gothic-/Symphonic-Metal one-man-project Tom Spell releases his first EP „Mensch und Endlichkeit“ via the common streaming platforms and online shops. The EP features four songs in German language, including the title track „Mensch und Endlichkeit“ (Man and Finity) that was featured on the CD „Cold Hands Seduction Vol. 255“ that comes with German Gothic / Industrial / EBM / Dark Wave / Metal Magazine SONIC SEDUCER issue no. 02/24.
Inspired by the fascination of the eternal circle of creation and decay, the EP tells a four-part story about the transience of live and love, dreams of immortality, moments of strenght and weakness, revelations of self- knowledge and self-love: In the title track “Mensch und Endlichkeit” (Man and Finity) Tom Spell is confronted with the transience of life and finds salvation in the glory of the moment. In the second track “Ewigkeit der Sterne” (Eternity of the Stars – reviewed in SONIC SEDUCER issue no. 24.02), knowing that he will die, he dreams of immortality in the realm of the cosmos. In the third track “Leid der Liebe” (Suffering of Love) Tom Spell sinks into the deep shadows of the transience of love. He realizes that in the end self- love is the last light that shines in the darkness. But it’s not that easy to love yourself when you’re obviously full of flaws. The fourth track “Ich bin Ich” (I am I) deals with Tom Spell’s inner process of finding, hating, accepting and loving his identity. So a life full of self-love and inner freedom seems to be the solution. If only it weren’t for the certainty of death… and the mental game starts all over again.
Brute guitars, driving bass and energetic drums meet warm strings, thundering horns and thrilling choirs. When versatile musician Tom Spell from Düsseldorf, Germany transcends the boundaries of traditional rock and metal by combining the sound of these genres with orchestral instruments and atmospheric synths, he brings together musical worlds that are so different at first glance and yet fit together perfectly, simply because they share the same limitless inherent passion.
Thus he creates the ideal stage for his melancholic lyrics and the unique, sometimes pleasantly calm, sometimes passionately powerful singing. The skillful combination of these elements generates his individualistic Alternative-/Gothic-/Symphonic-Metal, which is characterized by depth, complexity and versatility. Melancholy meets power! The whole life rages in a song. Opposites such as anger and love, sadness and energy, longing and fulfillment are musically united.
„Ich bin Ich“ (meaning I am I) is the fourth track of the EP and simoultanously released as Tom Spell‘s new single on November 15th, 2024. The captivating rock/metal song is about finding, hating, accepting and loving one‘s own flawed identity, featuring energetic drumming, hammering guitars and powerful vocals.
