The most influential Danish music magazine GAFFA has labelled her “the new soul and R&B mama”, while Bands of Tomorrow has called her “Denmark’s equivalent to Anderson Paak”. On 15 September Jaya May i releasing her debut EP ‘Love Life’.

Jaya May, formerly known as Espichicoque, is a drummer, percussionist, singer and songwriter. For the past three years, she has performed at home and abroad with major Danish artists such as Stine Bramsen, Efterklang and Ravi Kuma. But now it’s finally time to take the stage again under her own name.

Both Danish and international media have been queuing up to praise the singing drummer’s comeback with the singles ‘Let Me Know’ and ‘Yours’. Now Jaya May is ready to reveal the rest of the songs on the EP.

Don’t forget yourself in the pursuit of love
One of the most important messages on the album, produced by Anton Falk, is to never forget yourself and your love of life in the pursuit of the perfect love life. A banal yet important piece of advice from Jaya May that puts the whole theme of ‘Love Life’ into perspective.

Make a difference
All of the songs on the EP stem from different kinds of love, and the story behind ‘Let You Down’ is particularly important to Jaya May:

“I’ve been a music and dance teacher for 12 years, and in my time as a teacher I’ve stepped in and out of many different lives. I wrote ‘Let You Down’ about the experience of being the first fat adult someone meets and the feeling that if I can support here, I can really make a difference. I’ve had a handful of very important adults in my upbringing who have helped make me who I am today, and it’s a huge honour to be able to help carry on that tradition.”
