It started as disagreements often start, but quickly pivoted to something folks often don’t do: We listened to each other. It enriched our mutual understanding of a complex subject, and made it plain we both shared the same values and were just trying to understand what the hell was going on and act with integrity. He was deeply and sincerely curious to understand me. He didn’t try to win the conversation or leverage the issue for personal gain. I didn’t either. Understanding was the win. This inspired me.”
