Exploring gloomy realms, MERLOCK produce imposing soundscapes that embrace the murky depths. Seeing multiple genres converge, MERLOCK manifest a compelling doom, psychedelic and stoner mix in the new record. Onward Strides Colossus will be released on February 24th, 2023.
Today the band has revealed two playthrough videos for the title track, vocalist and guitarist Taylor D. Waring commenting: “’Onward Strides Colossus’ was the last song we wrote for the album. We’d originally had another track slated, but that got the ax and we worked rigorously to build this track in the last month or so before visiting the studio. It was a bit of a grind, but it also really captures the heat and pressure we were under. I’d had this vague “character” of a cosmic, colossal monstrosity that kept popping up in the lyrics, so I thought I’d explore that creature more in depth in this track — bring it to life, so to speak. For an album that explores cycles of death and rebirth in our own existence, it was apropos to end the album enacting the birth of the monster that haunts it.”
