With one foot in Copenhagen and the other in Corsica, Malu Pierini unveils a Mediterranean dreamscape on ‘Libera Me’. The dramatic and darkly humorous, soulful new single is out now!
Meaning “Free Me” in Latin, ’Libera Me’ borrows its title from an old Corsican church hymn Pierini remembers from her childhood summers on the island. Here, it becomes a symbol of release – from fear, from old patterns, and from the weight of the past – forming the foundation of a raw and self-reflective anthem about love and the instinct to run from it.
“‘Libera Me’ is the ultimate self-sabotage anthem – about standing face to face with a love that is kind, generous, and unconditional, and still feeling an overwhelming urge to push it away and run,” says Malu Pierini. And that’s exactly what she does.
With sharp wit and black humor, the track depicts the paradox of intimacy: she’d rather fling herself off a cliff, crash her dad’s station wagon, and break every bone in her body than surrender to something that might just be too good to be true.
”It’s a song about the nonsense that goes on in your head – the thoughts you hope nobody can read. Like: this love is perfect, so obviously I should ruin it – about wanting to break old patterns, but somehow tripping over my own shoelaces every time.”
Sonically, ’Libera Me’ weaves together French finesse, soul and Nordic melancholy. The organic production carries a nostalgic pull, opening with a recorded conversation between Malu and her 95-year-old uncle, while Corsican church bells ring out through the chorus. As with her previous singles ’Souvenir’ and ’Just For Us’, ’Libera Me’ signals a bold new artistic chapter, deeply rooted in her French and Corsican heritage.
Malu Pierini has achieved national Danish radio airplay, played numerous sold-out shows and received praise from leading Danish media outlets Soundvenue and GAFFA, while also attracting international attention from the likes of COLORS (DE), DLSO (IT), FIZZY Magazine (DE), and Ones To Watch (US).
