The renowned independent Danish artist rediscovers the origin of her songwriting, as she enters the church of Dreamland Recording Studios with her band, a set of dogmas and four new songs!

It’s impossible not to be drawn by the beautiful forests and nature surrounding Woodstock, New York. Overwhelmed by the silence, a mystic atmosphere and the obvious divine, yet sensual feel of the almost 125-year-old wooden church, Fallulah and her band entered the legendary Dreamland Recording Studios in the spring of 2024 to record a live session inspired by the origin of her songwriting.

”To me, New York is the beginning. This is the place I discovered the magic of music. This is where my passion grew and the first songs were written. For this project, I knew I had to go back to the starting point of my musical creativity to rediscover the origin of making music from scratch,” Fallulah says.

Inspired by the ”Dogme95”-movement, originally created by groundbreaking filmmakers such as Lars von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg to challenge the known and common ways of shooting and editing movies in the 90’s, Fallulah decided to create her own set of dogmas including limited time for songwriting and basically no preparation or rehearsal ahead of the departure from Copenhagen. Also, she and the band could only make use of whatever instruments and gear that the analogue studio, known for its recordings with artists like Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Sufjan Stevens, Feist and The National, would provide. And of course, everything should be recorded in one take.

“It’s a paradox. But setting up specific rules and dogmas to follow sparked a feeling of freedom and writing the songs became a very intuitive experience. They came to life with the band, standing in this sacred but also really intimate and somehow sensual church hall, holding our breath while pressing the red record button and surrendering ourselves to the moment. It was intense. Like a fever dream you don’t want to wake up from,” Fallulah explains.

With four new songs and a new interpretation of her own hit single, ‘Give Us A Little Love’, ‘Live At Dreamland’ invites the listener into various organic soundscapes. From the longing feelings of ‘The Butterflies’ to the soulful charm of ‘Coffee’ and the garage rocking beats of ‘Back Again’. ‘Smoked Honey Butter’ is the lead single, warm and flirty like the golden colours of Autumn.

Fallulah is a multi-award-winning independent songwriter, singer and musician. In 2023, she cut ties with Spotify, releasing her latest album, ‘Celeste’, solely through Bandcamp and Patreon to reconnect with fans and the uniting force of releasing new music.

’Fallulah – Live at Dreamland’ is available through Bandcamp and Patreon while the entire session is public on Youtube.
