Danish singer and songwriter Elias Bendix has been curious since his days at Ollerup Music Boarding School. His thirst for musical adventure has led him to study music in Spain and Argentina, and last year he moved to Ethiopia to begin a new era in his career as an artist. Every full moon he releases a new single, and on 24 April he will release a song he started writing over 10 years ago in Ollerup.
“My time at boarding school was pretty amazing for me musically. Before I started school I listened to a lot of Metallica and stuff like that, but at Ollerup I met a lot of really cool people who introduced me to jazz, but also to bands like Radiohead and the Danish band Kashmir,” says Elias Bendix, who has drawn particular inspiration for his new single from the latter.
On ‘Fluid’, Elias Bendix captures that liquid feeling you get in your body when you’re excited about a new band you’ve just discovered, he explains:
“When I encounter new music that really captures me, I can experience moments where I feel completely fluid, melted and in a kind of carefree trance. I remember having many experiences like that, especially in boarding school. It was an exciting and inspiring time for which I am very grateful.”
The music also feels smooth and light on ‘Fluid’, which drifts along effortlessly like a carefree teenager with his new favourite band in his ears and not a care in the world.
Mini biography
Since his debut in 2018, Elias Bendix has made a name for himself on Danish radio and with several placements on New Music Friday. Both Danish and international music media have praised Elias Bendix’s ability to embrace a wide range of musical styles.
His career began in the jazzy and funky pop realm, but since 2022, in collaboration with producers Lars Villumsen and Birk Nevel, he has moved in a more indie-pop direction – a trajectory that has earned him praise from music magazine Undertoner, who called the single ‘Did My Light Go Out’ a “melodic dream trip of an authentic single”.
Please welcome another full moon release from Elias Bendix. ‘Fluid’ will be out on 24 April.
