In June, Danish singer-songwriter Carmie released the indie ballad ‘Things I No Longer Do’. With her impressive vocals and obvious talent for writing catchy melodies, she charmed her way into the Danish households. The song received a lot of coverage in both Danish and international media and was named ‘Song of the Week’ on Denmark’s largest radio station P4.
We’re drowning in alcohol and cigarettes
On 29 September, she releases another precursor to the EP she reveals will be released later this year. On the single, titled ‘Cigarettes & Shots’, the pace is dramatically quickened compared to its predecessor.
In the lyrics, Carmie sings about the alcohol consumption that many young people in Denmark in particular use to cope with their challenges when everyday life gets a little too pressurised.
“In general, I see a tendency for more and more young people to seek solace in alcohol – including myself”, says Christine Aggerholm, who is the woman behind the moniker Carmie.
“Alcohol has been an integral part of Danish culture for centuries, but it would be great to be known for something other than our drinking habits around the world”, laughs Carmie.
Help Carmie put Denmark on the world map for our music rather than our drinking habits. Please welcome ‘Cigarettes & Shots’ on 29 September.
